What TorkLift FastGun Turnbuckles For Northern Lite 10-2 Camper On A Ram 5500 Flatbed?

Updated 02/09/2026 | Published 02/02/2026

Question:

Hey whats up! I have got a Ram 5500 and I am planning to mount a Northern Lite 10-2 camper on a CM flat bed in a 60CA truck, and I’m trying to decide which Torklift Fast Guns to go with. Here is what I’m comparing: Short Fast Guns: https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/TorkLift/TLS9520.html Long Fast Guns: https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/TorkLift/TLS9522-2-LK.html Thanks in advance ??

Hey Ash, thanks for reaching out. That’s a solid build you’re putting together.

For a Northern Lite 10-2 on a CM flatbed with a Ram 5500, you’re going to want the short TorkLift FastGuns # TLS9520. On flatbed setups like yours, the tie-down points are typically bed-mounted and much closer to the camper, which is exactly what the short FastGuns are designed for. Their reach range of roughly 14" to 21-1/2" lines up well with most CM flatbed installs and keeps the turnbuckles working in their ideal adjustment range.

The long FastGuns # TLS9522-2-LK are meant for frame-mounted tie-downs and have a much longer reach (about 25" to 43"). On your setup, those would almost certainly be too long and make it harder to get proper tension without awkward angles or excess adjustment. Short FastGuns are what we typically see used on similar Northern Lite + flatbed rigs and they keep things clean, tight, and easy to hook up.

When do you plan on picking up the camper?

I have a 2018 3500 with a CM flat bed and Palomino 2901. I use the short FastGuns. I drilled a hole in the stake pocket rail that the lower hook of rear FG could go through and bolted some HD d-rings on the iron plate near diesel fill tube for front FG. This works great for how the brackets are mounted on my camper. They have been on for several thousand miles and a few years.

@Rick Thanks for sharing that, Rick. That’s a slick setup, and it’s great to hear the short FastGuns have held up for several thousand miles. Appreciate you explaining how you mounted everything on the CM flatbed, that’ll help others running a similar setup.

Short answer is the shorter fast guns. I mounted an alaskan 8' slide-in camper on a F350 with CM 9.5' bed and drilled holes in rub rail to secure the fast guns. Problem i discovered was the camper still slid around a little, so I bolted angle iron with 2X6 attached through the bed to the sides and front of camper to contain the movement. Now the fast guns work well and i experience no movement.

@Dan Hey Dan, thanks for sharing! Good to know the short FastGuns are working out. Nice work building those supports to keep the camper from sliding. That sounds fairly common with the flatbeds, so that's a great tip for others looking at similar setups.
