Can A Trailer Wiring Harness Be "Stacked" On A Flat Towing Wiring Harness?

Updated 02/04/2026 | Published 01/15/2026

Question:

I have a 2000 jeep wrangler with a curt 55363 wire harness for pulling a small trailer. Can I also plug in a curt 58902 harness for flat towing the jeep? Can I just plug in the flat tow harness to the jeep then plug the trailer harness in to that and then into the tail lights? Kinda piggy back the plugs at the tail lights

Hi Steve!

You can absolutely install the Curt 58902 flat tow wiring harness with the Curt # C55363 trailer wiring harness you already have installed on your 2000 Jeep Wrangler. It's something that is done very often, but you definitely want to make sure everything is fully plugged in together and all your grounds are good and secure.

Do you have all the parts to get your Jeep ready for flat towing? I saw you got the Blue Ox base plate recently, but do you have a braking system and tow bars?

Does it matter which harness is plugged in first? Jeep/ flat tow harness/ trailer harness / taillights.

@Steve It does not. All the power will be going along the same lines, so you can do whatever is the most convenient for you. That said, I would go the way you said: Jeep - Flat Tow Harness - Trailer Harness - Taillights. I think that would end up keeping all the wiring more organized when everything is being installed.

@LazerS Thanks for the helpful information. I'll wire it up this weekend and see where I stand. I'm sure I'll need more parts to get this all set up. Thanks again Steve
