Can The Head On The etrailer Electric A-Frame Jack e74GV Be Mounted Backwards?

Updated 01/09/2026 | Published 01/06/2026

Question:

Can you rotate the head on this unit to face it backwards to cleat the tailgate for a 2021 Dodge Ram 2500? I see the 4 Allen Headed bolts beneath the head unit. Can I just rotate that housing 180º by removing and reinstalling those 4 bolts?

Hi Richard!

I pulled one of the etrailer Electric Trailer Jack w/ 7-Way - Drop Leg - A-Frame - 22-1/2" Lift - 5K # e74GV from our warehouse and there is no reason you couldn't unbolt the head and mount it backwards. I do have to admit to not being able to get those bolts out as I only had a multi-tool to work with (and they are either torqued down pretty good or they used some kind of thread locker), but I did pull the top cover off and included a couple pictures of that. It did look to be completely symmetrical.

That said, you can also just mount it at an angle. The mounting plate is pretty standard and you do not have to mount it with the light facing forward. It would be a lot easier than taking the jack apart. We have people di it this way all the time.

What kind of trailer are you wanting to mount this on?

Thanks Lazer! Yes, those required a long handle ratchet to break free, but none had thread locker. I'd estimate, maybe 35-40 ft/lbs to break free. I took two out before contacting you guys, then as I was unscrewing the other two, I discovered that there was some spring tension there as those were unscrewed. After I had about a 1/8" gap, I recognized that, I reassembled, then contacted you guys. Yep, I can rotate the entire system 120º, but will have to open up two holes in the jack plate some to align them with the trailers welded in nuts. The Trailer mount points are a little off from 120º symmetrical. Once I do that, I'd need to add in some thicker AN style washers, or make a small plate, to capture/cover those holes to may satisfaction.

@RichardD Gotcha. I would have stopped when I saw spring tension as well. Out of curiosity, what kind of trailer do you have?
