Pro Tip: Before you invest in a weight distribution hitch, make sure your cargo is evenly loaded in your trailer to keep the weight balanced. If you still have a hard time even after balancing your tongue weight, a weight distribution hitch should help.
If you love BulletProof Hitches and you wouldn't dream of buying anything else for your weight distribution needs, look no further. With sway control built-in, it creates a rigid system that holds your trailer in line behind your vehicle, helping keep your trailer from getting off track. And it uses friction to force your trailer back in line if a strong crosswind or passing truck is a bit too much for the rigid hold to handle on its own.
Because the steel-on-steel friction of the bars and L-brackets is noisy, don't be alarmed if you hear some banging, creaking, and grinding. It's just the system working to correct sway
Fun Fact: Steel-on-steel friction is what locomotives use to keep multi-ton railcars from swaying.
You know how they say, "take a picture, it'll last longer?" The same applies here. After we towed with this system a handful of times, we found that the rough, black powder coat was already rusting in spots where there is direct steel-on-steel contact (e.g. the L-brackets and underneath the spring bars). If you love the BulletProof brand name, and you like how this hitch looks out of the box (which is packaged beautifully, by the way) you should probably take a picture of the hitch before you use it, becuase it won't look any better than the day you bought it.
To adjust the tilt, simply slide washers onto the spacer rivet and insert it into the head assembly. Once the spacer is in place, tighten the shank bolts to secure the head to the shank. To check if your truck and trailer are level, you'll need to hookup and release your tongue jack. If you find that the rear of your truck is still sagging, add washers to increase leverage. If it looks like too much weight has been taken off your truck's rear axle and is sitting on your front axle, try removing a few washers.
While the washer-stacking method allows you to fine-tune the setup at the time of installation, it's going to require some patience. It can be time consuming because, if you don't get everything right the first time (which, you probably won't), you'll have to take the head unit apart to adjust the washers. You might have to raise or lower the L-brackets too to get the tension just right, and that's a bit of a pain also. Not to mention that you might have to repeat this process if your tongue weight changes or if you swap out your tow vehicle.
Your tongue weight is the first thing you need to know when figuring out which weight distribution system you need. Most people think that if they get the highest-rated system possible, it'll be smooth sailing. But actually, this will create a rigid ride and a bouncing trailer. On the other hand, if the system isn't strong enough, it won't be able to distribute the weight properly, making it virtually useless.
Once you know your trailer's tongue weight, add it to the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Then just choose a weight distribution system rated for that combined tongue weight.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look together at this Bulletproof Hitches Weight Distribution System with Swipe Control. Now this weight distribution system is going to give you a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and your trailer. Adding spring bars to your towing system is going to apply leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all of the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer. That's gonna result in an even distribution of the weight throughout and then that's going to give you a more smooth level ride as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.
So this is rated with a tongue weight from 800 to 1400 pounds with a maximum gross towing weight of 14,000 pounds. Now as you probably know, the tongue weight rating is going to be the most important factor in determining which size of weight distribution system you should use. So if the bars of your system that you choose are rated too high for your setup, that's going to create a more rigid ride, which can result in like a bouncing trailer. If on the other hand the bars are not rated high enough, then the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless. So to determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight.
Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Those two measurements are gonna make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system. Now this system does feature an integrated two points weight control that's going to limit the side to side movement of your trailer. The brackets are going to keep these forged steel spring bars in place for a rigid system that's gonna hold your trailer in line. The steel on steel friction is going to help minimize sway that's caused by winds or sudden maneuvers.
And this system does not have lift chains, so that's gonna eliminate unwanted movement of your spring bars. These are going to be no drill clamp on brackets, they're gonna mount directly to your trailer's frame. And these are going to fit, this system's gonna fit trailer hitch receivers rated for use with weight distribution systems. Now the sway control bracket positioning should be a minimum of four inches in from the end of the spring bar. And the maximum trailer frame dimensions that this is gonna work with, it's gonna be from three to six inches.
This does feature Bulletproof Hitches' matte, this textured powder coat finish. So that's going to do a great job of resisting rust and corrosion. It's a great looking finish that Bulletproof Hitches has on most all of their products, so it holds up well and it's going to look great. So you're gonna get everything that you see here that's on my table. You're going to get the head assembly with the two and five 16th inch ball. Obviously the spring bars, the sway control brackets that we've been talking about. And then you're also going to get this spring bar lift tool that's going to help you lift the spring bars into place. So that is included, along with the pins and the clips that you need and all the necessary hardware. I don't think I said this at the beginning of our time together, but I just kind of loosely assembled everything. So you have a good idea of how this is going to be set up. Should be a relatively easy install. Obviously this does not include the adjustable shank, so if you don't have a one that's going to work with this, then that's something you would have to pick up as well.
