Hey, Debbie!

The etrailer Spare Tire Mount, part # e98ZR, that goes into a 2" hitch would be a perfect spare tire mount for your 2023 Toyota RAV4. It's really easy to take on and off if needed. If you do find yourself removing it and putting it back on, it comes with an alignment collar. I attached a photo of the collar mounted on the shank of the carrier so you can see how it's used.

Are you wanting to use this carrier to have easier access to your spare tire?

I want the back area of the RAV available for other things, and I hate donut tires.

@DebbieS I don't blame you for not liking donuts. A full sized spare is always preferred in my book. The only donuts I like come from Dunkin'.

@DebbieS I used this carrier to mount my full sized spare tire on the front of my Ford SuperDuty pickup. It works great for that application but you need a front hitch receiver and I definitely recommend using an anti-vibration clamp. That keeps everything nice and solid. The spare tire is must easier to access compared to stock location under the bed. You can still access the hood latch, but it is more constricted than without the front mounted spare. My wife has a 2021 RAV. I wouldn’t put this carrier on the back of her RAV as it would block the tailgate from opening.

@GwendolynY will this swing away to allow access to the rear door on the RAV?

I bought two mounts. I use one hitch on the front of a FJ Cruiser and second one on the back of an off-road Runaway camper. They are solid, well built, to hold two full-size 35's off-road tires / rims. I travel off road many times and have had no problems. The only set back is that the rear door cannot be opened because of the tire.

@HenryD How are you liking that Runaway camper?

@GwendolynYi I bought the 6’x8’ Runaway Ventuist 5/6 years ago, and have been very happy with. It comes equip to handle any rough rocky dirt off road trails. The cabin is only 46 high but I was a backpacker before the ground got too hard and cold for my bones. The cabin interior is empty so one designs it anyway you want it. I have set it up the way I want it with no extra items that I don’t need or use. I go off road / Overlanding 10 plus times In Nevada, during the winter months so I removed the air conditioner. I only use the camper to sleep and carry the minimum supplies that are stored outside the camper. The frame is solid 4” with a thicker square body frame. There are no problem in the snow, mud, rain, difficult dirt road. It does come with electric brakes. Extremely happy … it’s not for the camper that needs the benefits of being at home …

@HenryD Countless adventures for sure! I always see camping as getting a way from home life and being out on an adventure. If I wanted home conveniences, I'd just stay at home. I don't know if I could try out winter camping like you do but maybe one day I'll get enough hootspa to do so one day. etrailer has 2 Hyk trailers that we can rent out and I really like them. It has the space you need for sleeping and enough storage for what you need when out camping.
