Question:

where are the loops for safety chains? can you use the oval cutouts in the back section. Are they even reachable, or at least easily reachable?

Hi Fred!

The safety chain loops on the B&W Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # BW47BR are a bit different than other hitches, but they are indeed the oval cutouts. They will be slightly more difficult to get to than more standard loops, like those on the Curt # C77MJ, but it does look a lot cleaner. I always thought the loops looked kind of goofy with how they are typically done, but they are easier to get to.

One thing I do need to mention though, neither of the mentioned hitches are technically confirmed to fit a 2026 model RAV4. They are in the process of confirming all this and doing any needed redesigning. That said, the '26 models are still the 6th generation and I do not think there have been any design changes as of yet (it was only launched in May of 2025).

What are you wanting to use the hitch for?

Hey Fred, how did it go reaching the safety chain loops through those oval cutouts on your B&W hitch? Were they as tricky to access as expected or not too bad once everything was in place? Your feedback could really help others comparing this design to the Curt option.

@LazerS they are certainly in an awkward and hard to reach location. There was the option of putting the cut outs more forward. Strange choice, in my view. I mainly use it as a bike hitch mount and so the difficulty of reaching the chain cut outs does not matter too much. I use a trailer about 8 times each year so it will be a pain but have reduced impact.

@Fred Yeah that makes sense. You could put something like the Roadmaster Quick Links for Safety Cables - 10,000 lbs Capacity - Qty 2 # RM-910022 on to make them a little easier to connect, but I can't really say how much easier it would make it. Just a thought though. Out of curiosity, what kind of trailer do you tow?
