Why Won’t My Wheel Masters Valve Stem Extension Fit and How Do I Keep the Mount From Coming Loose?

Updated 04/03/2026 | Published 03/24/2026

Question:

Hello, I am having issues with the valve stem extension kit on my 2024 Ram 3500 dually. The mount is coming loose from the wheel and I can’t get the other one to fit on the factory valve stem that is turned inward. I am afraid it is going to chip up my expensive painted wheel.

Hello Darryl,

I am sorry you are having issues with the Wheel Masters 4-Hose Inflation Kit - 16" to 19-1/2" Dually - Wheel Cover Mount # WM8208, especially with the mount coming loose and the inner valve stem being hard to fit. I also completely understand your concern about protecting the painted wheels.

For the bracket coming loose, the main goal is giving it a tighter grip. These can be a little loose on aluminum wheels, so adding a thin piece of rubber or even a strip of tape where the bracket contacts the wheel can help take up that slack. You can also gently bend the bracket tabs inward to improve the hold. A small zip tie on the backside can help keep everything from shifting if it still feels loose.

To protect your wheel, I would recommend putting a small piece of clear tape or paint protection film anywhere the bracket or hose might make contact. Even a little movement can start to mark up the finish over time.

For the inner valve stem, the key is correcting the angle before installing the hose. Since the stem is turned inward, the hose will fight you and may not seal well. Using a short rigid angled adapter, like a 45 or 90 degree piece, can make this much easier. Install the adapter onto the factory stem first, then thread the hose onto the adapter so everything lines up properly.

When routing the hoses, make sure they are not under tension or pulling in any direction. You want them to sit naturally so they are not putting stress on the valve stems or connections. Once installed, snug everything down without over-tightening, and check for leaks with soapy water.

If you can get the bracket tightened up, protect the contact points, and fix the angle on that inner stem, the kit should work much more reliably.

Is this mainly a work truck? Or do you mainly use it for towing around fun things like a camper?

I'm not sure why they call these. We'll cover mounts, as they will not mount with a will cover. As you can see, they're designed for a stamped steel wheel. Therefore I don't think they would work for aluminum wheels.Because there's no rim lip to attach them to. I think you're out of luck getting them to attach to your aluminum wheels. If you look at the e trailer pictures for these, you can see, they have mounted to a stamped steel well, and they clip on that outer lip. This is why I couldn't run them with the will cover. Because it covered up that outer lip and I assume your aluminium wheels. Don't have a lip

In my initial reply I meant to say "wheel" not "will". Just trying to clarify if anyone was confused by my wording.

@Fishnot That makes perfect sense to me, looks like these are for the steel dually. Can you please send me a picture of your wheels by responding directly to the email you receive? I would like to reach out to the manufacturer to see what we can do.

Review requested by Kate F for 4 hose inflation kit. I have only installed one side, 2 of the 4 hoses so far. Have not had a chance to drive it yet but they are holding pressure. Will install other 2 in a week or two. They are shorter than the ones from another mfr for 16" to 19.5" for some reason but I think they should work.

@PhilB I appreciate the response Phil. I am curious, are you installing them on aluminum or steel wheels?
