Why Does Draw Tite Hitch # DT28GR Have Higher Towing Capacity than Vehicle It Fits
Updated 12/17/2025 | Published 12/15/2025 >
Question:
The activity mount from Toyota has a max weight around 110 lbs. Its installed similarly to this hitch. I understand this hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 300 lbs, but is the cars frame strong enough to support that much?

Hey M, all of our hitches have a weight capacity that is determined independently from the vehicle it is designed to fit including the Draw Tite part # DT28GR that you referenced. This hitch was designed to fit the vehicle and then made as strong as they could reasonably make it and then tested to see how strong it is. That is why it would have a higher capacity than the vehicle it fits. With any towing setup the lowest rated component becomes the overall capacity as that is what would fail first.

I installed on my Corolla Cross and carry a Kuat 4 bike carrier and 4 bikes. That weight is right around 210 lbs and it that works out fine. The headlights are pointed a little upwards when fully loaded but otherwise there are no issues.

I purchased (with confidence, as a repeat and satified customer) a trailer mount for our 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross. Installation went smoothly despite being a bit intimidated by having to remove the plastic bumper facing. We typically load two e-bikes onto a beefy bike carrier mounted with a trailer hitch. All travels solidly on the etraler trailer mount.

I used your installer in West Branch Mi and they did a great job. But I want to notify everyone with a 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid that there is was NO WIRING HARNESS AVAILABLE. It took me almost 3 months of frustration dealing with Toyota Brand Engagement to finally have them install a wiring harness. In this 2026 model they redesigned the taillight assembly and there was no wiring harness available that would fit as the time. Make sure your 2026 CCH has a wiring harness that fits before you buy the hitch
