Question:

Hello etrailer experts, I have a 2025 BMW X5 50e Hybrid with M Sport Package. I am planning to get the trailer hitch/ receiver placed by professional installer. I understand the best option for this car is the SH52TR. I will use it for bike racks and for towing a single Jet ski -trailer. I’m concerned about the wiring kit. I understand it will be the passive one which won’t need previous programming. I definitely don’t want to mess up with the car’s original electrical system. Any advice or suggestions? Also I heard that the original impact structure will require to be permanently removed. Could you please share your information about this fact ?

For wiring, you are correct that the kit you’ll be using is a passive, non-programmed style system. It reads the taillight signals rather than tapping directly into the vehicle’s CAN network, so it will not interfere with the car’s electrical system.
