Best Stealth Hitch Trailer Hitch For 2025 BMW X5 50e Hybrid With M Sport Package

Question:
Hello etrailer experts, I have a 2025 BMW X5 50e Hybrid with M Sport Package. I am planning to get the trailer hitch/ receiver placed by professional installer. I understand the best option for this car is the SH52TR. I will use it for bike racks and for towing a single Jet ski -trailer. I’m concerned about the wiring kit. I understand it will be the passive one which won’t need previous programming. I definitely don’t want to mess up with the car’s original electrical system. Any advice or suggestions? Also I heard that the original impact structure will require to be permanently removed. Could you please share your information about this fact ?

Hi Carlos, thanks for reaching out. For the 2025 BMW X5 50e Hybrid with the M Sport package, the Stealth Hitch # SH25VR is the best choice. It comes with the hitch, rack receiver, and towing kit. It keeps the look of the vehicle clean, works perfectly for bike racks, and is fully rated to tow a small jet ski trailer. Since it uses its own dedicated receiver system, nothing on the BMW’s factory structure gets modified in a way that affects safety or the hybrid components.
For wiring, you are correct that the kit you’ll be using is a passive, non-programmed style system. It reads the taillight signals rather than tapping directly into the vehicle’s CAN network, so it will not interfere with the car’s electrical system. That is exactly why installers prefer this style on modern BMWs. No dealer coding is required.
Regarding the impact structure, on BMW X5 models the factory bumper beam is temporarily removed during installation, but it is not discarded. The Stealth Hitch replaces that structure with its own integrated, crash-rated crossbar that is designed to serve the same function. So yes, the original part comes off, but it is replaced with a tested structural component that takes its place. This is normal on these vehicles and is part of why Stealth Hitch is engineered specifically for luxury SUVs.
Did you already have a bike rack you were planning on using? Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!
