Trailer Hub for 3,500 lb Trailer Axle with 5 on 5 inch Bolt Pattern

Updated 12/10/2025 | Published 11/13/2025

Question:

I have a Big Tex trailer single axle 3500lbs 5 on 5 pattern without ez lube. I would like to replace the hub assemblies, but all I see are the ez lube ones and I believe the spindels are different? Would like Dexter hubs.

Hey JW, we have an idler hub like you are looking for with the part # AKIHUB-550-35-K or if you have trailer brakes and need a hub/drum you'd want the part # AKHD-550-35-K. These are both for 3,500 lb trailer axles, have the 5 on 5 inch bolt pattern you need, and aren't for EZ lube spindles.

Hey JW, how did the new Dexter hub work out on your Big Tex trailer? It’d be great to hear if the fit matched your 3,500‑lb axle as expected. Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same setup.

The axle does not have brakes and the part number posted is not a Dexter hub. I was hoping to find a Dester hub replacement.

@JwO My apologies! I should have noticed that in your question. What you would want instead is the part # DX48XR which is the Dexter in the configuration you are looking for.
