What Does Blue LED Mean For Redarc Tow Pro Liberty Brake Controller?

Updated 12/03/2025 | Published 11/05/2025

Question:

I just installed the Liberty version on my 2016 Ram 1500. I do not yet have the trailer I want to be towing. I can see a very very faint blue light from the LED when I have it removed from its housing. Is there any way to know if its working correctly if I dont have a trailer to hook up to?

Hello Rob, thanks for reaching out. So it is normal for the Redarc Liberty controller to have a blue light when the trailer is not hooked up. This just means it isn't detecting trailer brakes. If you used a custom plug-and-play harness, I would have no reason to assume the controller is not working correctly since problems with the factory connections are very rare. Still, the best way to confirm this is by hooking up the trailer and checking.

Hey Rob, how did things go once you were able to hook up your trailer and test the Redarc Liberty controller? Your update could make it easier for the next person checking their setup without a trailer connected.

@JesseM Thank you so much for resolving the issue with the part that was missing the plastic light tube. I am very happy with the all the people who helped me with this at Etrailer. I have even told people about how good the service was. Once I got it hooked up to the trailer it worked very well and the appearance of the control knob on the truck's console looks very professional. Thank you again and have a great weekend! Rob

@RobG Hey Rob, thanks for your kind words! I'm glad we were able to sort things out! This is the first I have heard of this specific problem with the LED itself being missing, so I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this in the future. If you ever need anything else, anything at all, don't hesitate to reach out!
