Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 03/15/2022

Question:

Since the Atwood 36681 is discontinued what would be the best replacement considering the size of the 36681 hole Im dealing with?

Expert Reply:

You could use the 2-wire Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector part # RS34FR in place of the Atwood 36681 that you referenced. This would fit in the cut out you have now and has a flange that is large enough that would cover the hole.

@Mary Atwood is no longer in business so the above mentioned detector would be your best replacement solution.

The old Atwood is a three wire, the RV has 3 wires . How .should I connect the 2 wires of the new alarm to the 3 wires in the RV?

@FredK The third wire of the Atwood is for an aux power wire in case of a power outage. So you'd need to run the extra power wire of your RV to the single power wire of the # RS34FR.
