I Installed the Progressive Dynamics Converter and the Fan is Not On, is that Normal?

Question:

Does the converter fan run all the time or intermittently when it is hot. Currently it has not kicked in during initial installation

Hello Robert,

You are correct.

The fan on your Progressive Dynamics # PD4655V converter doesn’t actually run all the time, it’s designed to come on only when it’s needed. That means if you’ve just finished your installation and haven’t heard the fan kick in yet, that’s usually nothing to worry about. The fan is temperature-controlled, so it’ll only start running when the converter gets warm enough, like when you’re drawing a decent amount of power or the surrounding temperature is high.

If your converter is under a light load or your RV isn’t using much power yet, it may stay cool enough that the fan never needs to turn on. As long as your converter is installed with good ventilation, getting proper 120V AC power, and you can see that it’s charging your batteries (typically around 13.6 to 14.4 volts), it’s doing its job just fine.

If you notice the converter getting hot and the fan still doesn’t run, then please let us know.

What kind of camper did this go in? Any big trips coming up?

Thanks Kate. This new converter i installed is for a 24 foot airstream, international. Just off a 2-month summer journey thru New England and part of the South. Great trailer, great journey and your help will get us ready for another great trip soon. Thanks.
