Question:

Ive got a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic with a 5½ bed. We recently got a used camper that came with a 5th wheel hitch. I want to put rails in the bed of my truck so I can use the hitch that came with the camper, but I dont know which one to get that will work with my short bed. What kit should I get for my truck?

Hi Adam!

The 5-1/2 foot bed on your 2019 Ram 1500 Classic does complicate things a little, but not completely. I did a bunch of digging and you will want the following set up:

Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10 Bolt # RP30035
Reese Mounting Brackets for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - Ram # RP58523

You didn't mention if you had the Eco Diesel or not, but this will actually fit both, so no worries there. Just be aware this is not recommended for models with Rambox and it does not fit if you have the factory Air Suspension system. We do not have any options for those, unfortunately.

What kind of camper and hitch did you get?

Hey Adam, how did things go getting those Reese rails and brackets set up in your Ram’s 5½‑foot bed? Your update could make it easier for others working with a short‑bed truck and a used 5th‑wheel hitch.
