What Info is Needed to Pick Out Replacement Leaf Springs and Hubs for Trailer

Updated 10/05/2025 | Published 09/30/2025

Question:

Are you able to retrieve information on the trailer parts I would need by Model and VIN number? Or would I need to measure everything individually? 2018 American Hauler Model AWAFX8524TA3 VIN 7HB21242XJ1064396 Im looking to replace the leaf springs minimum, but maybe the bearings, brakes and hubs as well. Thank you in advance,

Hey Brad, unlike vehicles trailer replacement parts aren't organized as well like by VIN or model info like you mentioned. It would make life easier if they were but to replace springs you'd have to measure the length of what you have and get me the axle capacity.

For the other parts I would be able to determine what's needed with axle capacity and wheel bolt pattern.

Thank you for the insight, Jameson. Flat length from eye to center of the leaf springs is 13.5", and they are 1.5" wide. Axle capacity is 5,200lbs each. There are 6 bolts on the wheels. What do I need to measure other than that? Thank you in advance,

@BradL Is it possible the springs are 1-3/4 inches wide? 1-1/2 inch width isn't a standard width for trailer leaf springs is why I ask and 1-3/4 inches is basically the industry standard. And the length dimension you took is that with the weight of the trailer on the suspension or is that with the trailer weight off? For the hub/drum replacement you would want the part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ. Then for brake assemblies you'd want the part # AKEBRK-7-SA.

@JamesonC It is possible that it was 1-3/4 and not 1.5. I can double-check tomorrow. I took a lot of weight out of the trailer, but it was not empty, and it was not jacked up. Would you recommend I replace the spindles as well for this 2018 trailer? Or is it something we would need to access and check on to see if we need to replace it while replacing the other components? I am a newbie to all of this but trying to learn as I go. Thanks,

@Brad Jack the trailer up and get the length of the spring with no load on them. Most likely the spindles are okay but you might still check to be sure.
