Will Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit Fit Dexter 7k Axles on 2008 Jayco Octane ZX M-29

Updated 09/30/2025 | Published 09/29/2025

Question:

Hello Conner, this morning I purchased the Hydrastar Disc Brake conversion kit (Part # HSE7K-T1 - Order # 123493325), for my 2008 Jayco Octane ZX 29 foot toy hauler with tandem/dual Dexter 7K axles. My tow vehicle is a 2005 Suburban 2500 with a Tekonsha Primus In Porportional Brake Controller. Double checking that this kit is the correct kit for my Dexter 7K axels. Is there anything the kit doesn’t include that I will need for my tow package? I read somewhere that I may need a circuit breaker? Thanks for your help. Bill

Hey Bill! The Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit w/ Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # HSE7K-T1 will fit the Dexter 7k axles on your Jayco. If you look at the wiring diagram below it does call for a 40 amp breaker like the # PK54540. It is also worth mentioning that the Primus is only compatible with electric brakes. I recommend upgrading to the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 or P3 # 90195 which are electric-over-hydraulic compatible. Both will connect to your existing wiring harness for a simple swap.

I’ve added those items to my cart. Would my existing Tekonsha Primus IQ vehicle specific adaptor also work on the Tekonsha P2? Thanks for all your advice.

@BillW yes it will. All of the plugs that go into the back of the brake controller are the same for Tekonsha. You will leave it connected to the vehicle, unplug from the back of the Primus, and plug it into the P2.
