Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring PK54540 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number PK54540. This is the Pollak 40-amp circuit breaker. The breaker is going to prevent your battery from draining and auxiliary applications from overdrawing typically used on hot leads. This is going to be a metal housing with a straight mounting bracket. You can see that it's a two-piece design that's going to be attached by spot welding. When it comes to the mounting bracket here, the distance that we have center on center between those two holes, that's going to give us a measurement of 1-9/16 of an inch.

Those mounting holes are going to have a diameter of 3/16 of an inch. The circuit breaker is going to feature cycling automatic reset so it's going to cycle continuously during overcurrent conditions and then it's going to return to run mode when the source of overcurrent is removed. It's going to have the two 10-32 studs. If we take a measurement center on center of the distance between those two studs, that's going to give us a measurement of about 11/16 of an inch. Now you're going to have a copper-colored plating on the battery terminal and then a zinc plating which is going to be the silver color on the auxiliary terminal and you can see there that it does have the hardware on those terminals. This is SAE standard J553 compliant. Some common applications are going to be accessory circuits, cooling fans, door locks, head lamps, tail lamps, window lifts, sun roofs, trailer package and electric brake controls. Now when it comes to the terminal dimensions, these are going to measurement 0.66 inches long which is going to be about 11/16 of an inch.

The current rating is 40 DCM, voltage rating is 12 VDC which is voltage direct current. When it comes to the operating temperature it's going to be between negative 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and storage temperature is approved for negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. That's going to do it for our review of part number PK54540. This is the Pollak 40-amp Circuit Breaker. .

  • Wiring Needed to Flat Tow a 2016 Jeep Wrangler
It sounds like you've created your own umbilical to go from the 7-way on your RV to a 7-way on your Jeep. The Hopkins connector # H20043 is 4 feet long, which isn't going to be long enough to bridge the gap of space for flat towing. You're going to need at least 6 foot umbilical. For a 6 foot 7-way molded cable use # H20044. We typically don't see 7-ways on the front of vehicles, for a great 7-way to 6-way umbilical with a 6-way (which is most common) connecter and mounting bracket I...

  • How to Charge Trailer Battery with 7-Way Connector
The 12 Volt accessory lead on the 6 or 7-way connector can be used to keep the battery on your trailer charged. Run the accessory lead from the trailer connector to the positive battery terminal on the trailer battery, and ground the negative terminal to the trailer frame. Please read and follow all of the battery manufacturers guidelines regarding battery charging. The 12 volt pin of the 7-way is the 1:00 position.

  • Troubleshooting 12V Trailer Power Circuit on 7-Way on 2008 Toyota Tacoma with Factory 7-Way
The first thing I would check is that there is a fuse of the correct value in the Tacoma's power distribution box for any circuits labelled trailer/towing/12V power. It is more likely that a fuse could be missing than that Toyota installed a 7-way but left out the one circuit. However, if this is indeed the case, and there is simply no wire connected to the 7-way for the 12V power pin at the 1-o-clock position (see linked photo, please) then you can use 10-gauge wire # 10-1-1 and a 40-amp...

The connection you will need to use is most likely the chassis connection in the case of the brake controller. You will want the connection that is hot at all times ran to the brake controller so that the trailer brakes can be operated at any time whether the ignition is on or not. The brake controller should be wired through at least a 20 amp circuit breaker, item # PK54520, and a 30 amp circuit breaker, item # PK54530, if the trailer has more than 4 brakes or the brake controller calls...

The 12V power circuit on a motor home's 7-Way socket, which is typically protected with a 40-amp circuit breaker like # PK54540, will deliver a maintenance level charge to a connected battery on either a towed vehicle or trailer. However, a depleted battery will NOT get a full charging current from this auxiliary 12V feed and will not fully re-charge. • Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Controller Connection Error Message in 2008 Silverado
This kind of brake circuit warning can have several causes, from corroded contacts in the truck socket or trailer plug to a damaged wire or even just a wire that might be rubbing on the truck or trailer frame. If you are referring to the 12V auxiliary trailer power circuit on a 7-way socket, which is normally carried on the pin at the 1-o-clock position as you look at the vehicle 7-way (see photo please), then you could have a bad circuit breaker on this power feed or there could be a corrosion problem on the socket contacts, or within the wiring that connects to it.
