Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring PK54540 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number PK54540. This is the Pollak 40-amp circuit breaker. The breaker is going to prevent your battery from draining and auxiliary applications from overdrawing typically used on hot leads. This is going to be a metal housing with a straight mounting bracket. You can see that it's a two-piece design that's going to be attached by spot welding. When it comes to the mounting bracket here, the distance that we have center on center between those two holes, that's going to give us a measurement of 1-9/16 of an inch.

Those mounting holes are going to have a diameter of 3/16 of an inch. The circuit breaker is going to feature cycling automatic reset so it's going to cycle continuously during overcurrent conditions and then it's going to return to run mode when the source of overcurrent is removed. It's going to have the two 10-32 studs. If we take a measurement center on center of the distance between those two studs, that's going to give us a measurement of about 11/16 of an inch. Now you're going to have a copper-colored plating on the battery terminal and then a zinc plating which is going to be the silver color on the auxiliary terminal and you can see there that it does have the hardware on those terminals. This is SAE standard J553 compliant. Some common applications are going to be accessory circuits, cooling fans, door locks, head lamps, tail lamps, window lifts, sun roofs, trailer package and electric brake controls. Now when it comes to the terminal dimensions, these are going to measurement 0.66 inches long which is going to be about 11/16 of an inch.

The current rating is 40 DCM, voltage rating is 12 VDC which is voltage direct current. When it comes to the operating temperature it's going to be between negative 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and storage temperature is approved for negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. That's going to do it for our review of part number PK54540. This is the Pollak 40-amp Circuit Breaker. .

All things listed were required although the terminals did not have a large enough opening as I needed. Also, it said that I needed 10 gauge wire but my Chevrolet is wired with 14 gauge so I have to modify the wiring. The idea was to hot wire the 12v pin on my stock 7 pin connector to supply my trailer with the necessary 12v to charge the trailer battery when on the road. However, after checking the stock wiring, I found it to be in good condition so I was able to reuse the existing stock wiring which was still in the stock wiring harness to the 7 pin hitch at the rear of my vehicle. I was able to pull the existing 12v wire off of the 12v pin in the fuse box and attach it to the new Pollack circuit breaker I purchased from etrailer.com I then only needed to use about 1 foot of the 10 gauge wire to go from my battery to the other pole of the Pollack circuit breaker. Very simple procedure sine I didn't have to run the 10 gauge back to the rear of the vehicle and attach it to the existing 14 gauge wire I had. The third picture I've posted with the red and blue wires next to each other show you the 10 gauge blue wire I purchased and the 14 gauge stock red wire that was in my truck. 210392

  • Adding a 7-Way and Brake Controller to a 2015 Ford Expedition with Factory 4-Way
  • From what we have found the 2015 Ford Expedition that came with a factory 4-Way connector will need a little bit of hardwiring to install a brake controller and 7-Way connector. You will need # 37185, some wire (more on that later), a brake controller, and a brake controller wiring harness. The 37185 will plug into the 4-Way. Then you will ground the white wire to the frame. That will leave a blue wire, black wire, and purple wire. The purple wire is for reverse lights so if the trailer...

  • How to Install a 7-Way on a 2011 Honda CR-V for Charging a Trailer Battery
  • Absolutely! For your 2011 Honda CR-V I first recommend installing the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118427 which is completely plug and play. You can see this process in the attached install video. Then in order to convert this 4-way into a 7-way I recommend using the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 because it has a mounting bracket and both 4 and 7-way trailer connection points. The only two wires you will want to attach on the 4 to 7-way adapter is the ground...

Vehicles with the 7-Way tow package have the blue brake controller output wire already run from the back of the van to the front. It is located under the dash near the emergency brake pedal. This blue wire connects to the controller's blue wire. The three other wires from the controller are: 12V input power (black wire) which connects...

But not to worry, installing one will not be as difficult as you might think. I am not sure which 4-Way to 7-Way adapter you are using, but we recommend the installation kit # ETBC7 that comes with an adpater of its own. For that you will need # 37185, a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540, and enough 12 gauge wire, # 12-1-1, to reach from the back of the Escape to the front. The wire is sold in increments of 1 foot. Twenty feet is recommended so you would enter 20 in the quantity box. The factory 4-Way will plug into the back of # 37185. Then you will ground the white wire to the vehicle...

You can use wire # 10-1-1 and breaker # PK54540. You will also need ring terminals # DW05705-1. The linked wiring article will help you confirm which 7-way wire to connect to. • Recommendation for Disconnecting the Battery or Running a Hot Wire When Wiring a Jeep Toad Vehicle
  • You could route the power wire from the RV 7-Way trailer connector to the Jeep battery to help maintain the Jeep battery when towing. The problem is that the 12 volt circuit will most likely not be able to keep up with the amperage draw on the Jeep battery when towing, because of the distance from the RV charging system, and you would need trailer connectors to accommodate the extra wire on the tow bar jumper harness and the Jeep. You can use # 30717 as a 4 to 7-Way adapter but I recommend # 37185 because it will give you both a 7-Way and still retain the 4-Way. The white wire will be the ground and the black wire for 12 volt power. Since the trailer does not have electric brakes, the blue wire can be taped up and stowed out of the way. Normally, the pin in the 1 O'clock position when looking into the vehicle side connector is for 12 volt power which would be used to maintain your trailer batteries.
