etrailer.com has been an easy company to work with. They were helpful in making sure we had what we needed to install our trailer hitch successfully. Thank you for your help. We have recommended you to friends and family and will continue to do business with you in the future.

Still a great product and a great company!

THANKS! The shipping a little long.

All things listed were required although the terminals did not have a large enough opening as I needed. Also, it said that I needed 10 gauge wire but my Chevrolet is wired with 14 gauge so I have to modify the wiring. The idea was to hot wire the 12v pin on my stock 7 pin connector to supply my trailer with the necessary 12v to charge the trailer battery when on the road. However, after checking the stock wiring, I found it to be in good condition so I was able to reuse the existing stock wiring which was still in the stock wiring harness to the 7 pin hitch at the rear of my vehicle. I was able to pull the existing 12v wire off of the 12v pin in the fuse box and attach it to the new Pollack circuit breaker I purchased from etrailer.com I then only needed to use about 1 foot of the 10 gauge wire to go from my battery to the other pole of the Pollack circuit breaker. Very simple procedure sine I didn't have to run the 10 gauge back to the rear of the vehicle and attach it to the existing 14 gauge wire I had. The third picture I've posted with the red and blue wires next to each other show you the 10 gauge blue wire I purchased and the 14 gauge stock red wire that was in my truck.

  • Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2005 Dodge Ram with Factory 4-Way
It sounds like the previous owner of your 2005 Dodge Ram did most of the hard work for you. My recommendation is to simplify things. We should start at the 7-Way with hardwiring the remaining wires. First, ground the white wire to the truck frame. that should leave 3 wires to connect. One of them is for the 12 volt power circuit, one is for output to the trailer brakes, and one is for reverse lights or auxiliary power. The wire that is attached to the 11 oclock position on the back of...

  • What Could Cause 12V Trailer Power Pin to Go Out on 2008 GMC Sierra 7-Way Socket
Hey Jim, thanks for reaching out! I took a look in the online owner's manual for your 2008 GMC Sierra and it looks like in the J-Case there's a fuse number 68 that has something to do with the 12V trailer power, but the manual made it sound like you might need to connect a stud or something like that to get it up and running. If the fuse looks good then the next thing to look at is the OEM wiring itself. This can be a bit difficult to follow sometimes and so you may end up just running...

  • Adapter for a 4-Way Flat Vehicle End Trailer Connector to 6-Way Round Pin Trailer Connector
If you only want to use the basic lighting functions provided by the 4-Way (left/right turn, brake, and running lights) then all you will need to do is plug the 4-Way end of the Adapter 4 pole top 6 pole, # A10-6034VP, into your vehicle 4-Way. The trailer 6-Way will then plug into the 6-Way receptacle on the adapter. You will also need to ground the white wire on the adapter to the vehicle frame at a clean and corrosion free metal surface. The remaining wires (blue for electric brakes and...

  • Oil Bath or Grease for HydraStar Disc Brake Kit with Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers
In regards to the bearings, trailer bearings nowadays are generally made overseas; there may be some exceptions here and there, but they generally aren't standard trailer bearings. The bearings and seals that come with the HydraStar Disc Brake Kit with Actuator for Tandem Axle Trailers # HSE7K-T1 are of the highest quality and you won't have any issues. As far as changing from grease to oil bath, that is not recommended for trailer hubs. Oil bath hubs can be problematic because they are...

You will need to hard wire the Tekonsha # TK63VR, on your 1996 Chevrolet CK Pickup. Hard wiring is straight forward and fairly easy to do. We have instructions and a video that I have linked below for you. From the Brake controller here are your connections. White wire to negative battery post. Black wire through a 20-amp circuit breaker, item # PK54520 (included in kit), to the positive battery post. Red wire to the stop light switch wire behind the brake pedal, use a circuit tester,...

  • Where Does the Red Wire for a Brake Controller Attach to a Vehicle
The red wire on a brake controller signals the controller that you are stepping on the brake pedal, so it has to be connected. It does not operate the brake lights on the trailer. It attaches to the cold side of the brake switch. The brake switch is located above the brake pedal. If I knew the year, make, and model of the vehicle I might be able to tell you which wire it is. To find it you will need a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if you do not already have one. Use the circuit tester...

  • Do 7-Way Trailer Connectors have Amp Ratings for Pins or the Whole Socket
Most if not all trailer wiring harnesses/connectors use larger wires for the 12 volt and ground circuits compared to the other circuits (lights). The sockets themselves don't have an amperage rating so you will go by the draw of the things drawing power. In order to figure out what the lights are drawing you could connect the trailer to the tow vehicle and turn on a function while testing the trailer side wiring behind the connector with a meter to see what sort of reading you get. Usually...

  • What is Needed to Install a Brake Controller and 6-Way Trailer Connector on a 2008 Honda Pilot
Since your trailer has a 6-Way connector installed you most likely have one of 3 wiring situations on your trailer. The first, and most likely, is that your trailer has electric brakes and a power wire to maintain a battery for auxiliary functions. The second is that you have the same power wire and backup lights at the rear of the trailer. The third, and least likely but possible, is that your trailer has hydraulic surge brakes and a coupler with electric backup lockout. If your trailer...

First we need to determine why that light is coming on in the first place. If it is coming on after you have installed adapter # C57674 then there is either a draw on the circuit or the vehicle thinks there is. Normally this is caused by a dirty trailer connector or corrosion but since it is a new installation that does not seem likely. So for something like the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 the 12V hot lead would get connected to a 40a circuit breaker # PK54540 and then to the battery from there. This means that it'll be hot all the time, but if it's not connected to anything it won't draw any power which in turn, won't drain your battery. If you did want that circuit to only be on when the vehicle is on, then you'd want to add a solenoid # PK5231201. The center pin on the solenoid...
