Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring PK54540 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number PK54540. This is the Pollak 40-amp circuit breaker. The breaker is going to prevent your battery from draining and auxiliary applications from overdrawing typically used on hot leads. This is going to be a metal housing with a straight mounting bracket. You can see that it's a two-piece design that's going to be attached by spot welding. When it comes to the mounting bracket here, the distance that we have center on center between those two holes, that's going to give us a measurement of 1-9/16 of an inch.

Those mounting holes are going to have a diameter of 3/16 of an inch. The circuit breaker is going to feature cycling automatic reset so it's going to cycle continuously during overcurrent conditions and then it's going to return to run mode when the source of overcurrent is removed. It's going to have the two 10-32 studs. If we take a measurement center on center of the distance between those two studs, that's going to give us a measurement of about 11/16 of an inch. Now you're going to have a copper-colored plating on the battery terminal and then a zinc plating which is going to be the silver color on the auxiliary terminal and you can see there that it does have the hardware on those terminals. This is SAE standard J553 compliant. Some common applications are going to be accessory circuits, cooling fans, door locks, head lamps, tail lamps, window lifts, sun roofs, trailer package and electric brake controls. Now when it comes to the terminal dimensions, these are going to measurement 0.66 inches long which is going to be about 11/16 of an inch.

The current rating is 40 DCM, voltage rating is 12 VDC which is voltage direct current. When it comes to the operating temperature it's going to be between negative 10 degrees Fahrenheit to 150 degrees Fahrenheit and storage temperature is approved for negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. That's going to do it for our review of part number PK54540. This is the Pollak 40-amp Circuit Breaker. .

  • Parts Needed to Install Curt TriFlex Brake Controller in GMC Van and Ford F-53
To install the Curt TriFlex # C51140 trailer brake controller in your 2006 GMC Savana Van you will need to wire in harness part # C51515. Vehicles with the 7-way tow package have the blue output brake wire already run from the back to the front. It is located under the dash near the emergency brake pedal. This connects to the blue wire on the harness. The white wire connects to battery negative, the red wire connects to the cold side of the brake light switch and the black wire connects...

  • How to Install a 7-Way on a 2011 Honda CR-V for Charging a Trailer Battery
Absolutely! For your 2011 Honda CR-V I first recommend installing the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118427 which is completely plug and play. You can see this process in the attached install video. Then in order to convert this 4-way into a 7-way I recommend using the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 because it has a mounting bracket and both 4 and 7-way trailer connection points. The only two wires you will want to attach on the 4 to 7-way adapter is the ground...

If your 2013 GMC Savana 3500 van has the tow package with factory-installed 7-way trailer connector then brake controller installation will be a snap. Vehicles with the 7-Way tow package have the blue brake controller output wire already run from the back of the van to the front. It is located under the dash near the emergency brake pedal. This blue wire connects to the controller's blue wire. The three other wires from the controller are: 12V input power (black wire) which connects...

To install a brake controller in a motorhome is just like installing a brake controller in a vehicle. If you were to install the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 you basically need to just make 4 connections. The black wire of the P3 will need to be run to the positive side of the motorhome battery through a circuit breaker like part # PK54540. The white wire will need to be grounded to the negative side of the battery. The red wire will be run to the stoplight switch wire. This wire is typically...

In order to use the Prodigy RF # 90250 you will need to install a 7-Way trailer connector on your 2014 Ford Escape. For that you will need # 37185, a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540, and enough 12 gauge wire, # 12-1-1, to reach from the back of the Escape to the front. The wire is sold in increments of 1 foot. Twenty feet is recommended so you would enter 20 in the quantity box. The factory 4-Way will plug into the back of # 37185. Then you will ground the white wire to the vehicle...

  • How to Wire 7-Way To Get 12V Power Even with Vehicle Ignition Turned Off
It sounds like you are wanting to have 12V power at the 7-Way connector on your Ford truck even when the truck's ignition is off. With factory/OEM wiring, the availability of 12V power with the ignition off will actually vary between truck manufacturers. Generally speaking, GMC trucks tend to always have an active/hot 12V pin at the connector even when the truck is off. The 12V circuit on Ford trucks on the other hand usually require the ignition to be on for the wire to have power....

  • Recommendation for Disconnecting the Battery or Running a Hot Wire When Wiring a Jeep Toad Vehicle
You could route the power wire from the RV 7-Way trailer connector to the Jeep battery to help maintain the Jeep battery when towing. The problem is that the 12 volt circuit will most likely not be able to keep up with the amperage draw on the Jeep battery when towing, because of the distance from the RV charging system, and you would need trailer connectors to accommodate the extra wire on the tow bar jumper harness and the Jeep. I recommend installing an Auto Battery Disconnect, #...
