Off-Grid Inverter Options - Comparing 1,800W To 3,000W

Published 09/16/2025

Question:

If I only camp off-grid occasionally, is there any downside to just getting the 1,800W GP94XR instead of the big 3,000W inverters?

Paul, for light use laptops, TV, maybe a coffee maker the 1,800W # GP94XR will be plenty and save you money.

The 3,000W models mainly benefit folks who want to run heavier loads microwaves, multiple outlets, maybe an A/C for awhile depending on your battery bank capacity. If you don’t need that, no harm in keeping it simple. If you decide to go with the bigger model, the # GP44XR is 3,000w and is 30A, while the # GP85QR is 50A and doubles as a charger as well.

What’s your heaviest appliance you plan to run off-grid? This will help determine which inverter you need.
