Solution For A Disc Brake Kit For My Tandem Axle Trailer 9/16 Studs
Updated 09/10/2025 | Published 09/03/2025 >
Question:
We have a 2022 Grand Design Solitude 345 GK-R, dual axel Dexter 120270s with the 17.5inch tires. It has the 9/16inch wheel studs and I see that there arent any dual axel kits to upgrade to disk brake on your site. I noticed a previous question on one of the other kits was asked with a similar issue as mine and the answer was to get two of the single axel brakes, and actuator kit and piece it together. Basically these two kits: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Brakes/DeeMaxx/DE68YR.html https://www.etrailer.com/Brake-Actuator/Hydrastar/HBA16-252-82.html The cost of that put together is about $300 more than if I got the HYD54FR triple axel kit. Am I missing something as to why that isnt the way to go? I have no need for spares, but if the triple kit is cheaper than piecing something together.... I guess that begs the question, why are there no dual axel kits for 7k axels with 9/16inch wheel studs? This is becoming more common out there. Thanks for any and all info to set me straight.

Hey Bob,
You are right in that we do not have a tandem axle kit with the 9/16" studs that you need. We have them in other wheel stud sizes but not the size you need. With that said you could go with the triple axle kit # DE26AR and have a spare brake kit for one axle. The only thing is the actuator in that kit does have increase volume for a triple axle trailer so it may be overkill, but it is still going to have the 1,600psi is needs so it will still work.
I am not sure why we do not have a tandem kit for that size stud you need, but there are some options to make it work. Do you get that trailer out and tow often?

Thank you for that info! Wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. We tow quite a bit with occasional towing in our CO mountains. This thing is on the 5 year plan as we want to upgrade to a Riverstone Legacy so weighing whether to do the upgrade and we, as well as the potential new owners, can benefit from it. Already did the roadmaster slipper setup from you all a couple years ago and that was a huge difference...but again, this isn't our last camper so trying to weigh pros and cons.
