Will Stealth Hitch Interfere With Kick Sensor on 2022 BMW X5

Updated 09/07/2025 | Published 09/01/2025

Question:

Will this retain the ability to open the hatch using foot wave?

Hi Jim; the Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver # SH64MR will not cause the loss of functionality for the kick sensor. With the receiver installed you may have to put your foot on either side to trip the sensor. With the receiver removed it will work just like it does now. Keep in mind, this is designed to fit the X5M and X5M Competition. If you have a different X5 model you will need a different Stealth hitch.

What are you planning to use the hitch for?

@Jim 2002 or 2022? I will assume 2022 since that is what you entered originally and none of these fit the 2002. On the product page for the # SH64MR it says M models. If you went through the fitguide the only one that would have popped up is the # SH89VR which is the correct hitch for the 2019-2026 X5 40i.

Went back and realized my mistake - never saw the M under the price. Reordered the correct hitch VR model. How do I return the other unopened MR hitch?

@Jim returns are handled through our customer service department. You can call them at 800-298-8924 or email [email protected]. I will forward this to them as well. They're around right now on Sunday so calling will be the fastest way to resolve it, followed by email.

@RobinH Thanks Robin. Total miss on my account but it looks like the correct hitch will be here in time for Thursday dropoff for installation. I'll call them now.
