Options For Pushing A Trailer With 1,000 Pound Smoker Up A Slope

Updated 09/18/2025 | Published 08/24/2025

Question:

Hi, I have a smoker that’s on a trailer, the truck smoker itself is about 1000 pounds, not sure about the tongue weight. I’m looking for a motorized or some kind of help with moving it around, considering that it normally sits in my backyard on a concrete pad, but there is a slope to get it to my front yard so I can get it on my truck. What product do you recommend for this that I know I can use to push it uphill?

Hi Nicholas!

Out of all the options we carry, I think the Trailer Valet 5X Swivel Jack and Trailer Mover - Topwind - 15" Lift - 5,000 lbs # STC-V211 you found is the best option for you. It bolts onto frames that are up to 2-3/4" wide x 6" tall, so it covers just about everything. I would grab the Drill Attachment included with the Trailer Valet XL, V2, or MV PRO Trailer Dolly # TVDA as it really makes moving it around a lot easier.

How much of a slope are we talking about though? This can push a trailer up a 5% (2.8 degree) grade without issue, but really isn't supposed to go more than that.

Hey Nicholas, Did you have a chance to check the slope of your yard? I'm curious if the Trailer Valet and the drill attachment worked out for moving your smoker uphill. Let me know how it went, as it could help others with similar setups!

@LazerS no not yet, for some reason, I didn’t get the reply to my comment. I guess I need to figure out what the slope of my yard is before moving forward with this solution.

@LazerS if it turns out that the incline is too great, what would you recommend then? A different product?

@NicholasM Another other options is the Parkit360 Force Electric Trailer Dolly - 5,000 lbs # PA96VR which can handle up to a 6% grade. However, that isn't very much more than the Trailer Valet can handle and it is over 3 times the price. I don't think it's what you are looking for. It is very nice though. I think a more realistic alternative is the Trailer Valet MV PRO Trailer Dolly w/ Chain Drive - 2" and 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 12,000 lbs # TV96FR. It is also on the expensive side, but not nearly as much as the Parkit360. It can technically handle up to a 10 degree incline, but I think the problem might be your tongue weight. It does have a minimum requirement of 500 pounds for this. I don't think you will be anywhere near this with what you described, but I could be wrong. If you are way under that 500 pounds, I am sorry to say we will not have an option for you. There is likely something out there that will work, I just don't know what it is at the moment. : (
