Will Adding A Front Hitch And Rack Interfere With Adaptive Cruise Control On A 24 Ram 2500?

Updated 09/09/2025 | Published 08/15/2025

Question:

My truck is 2024 Ram 2500 Diesel with Adaptive Cruise Control and parking sensors. I believe that a rack mounted on this receiver will NOT interfere with Adaptive Cruise Control, based on internet research. Do you have any information to confirm that or any customers that note that as a problem?

Hey Andy,

The hitch itself is not going to interfere with that adaptive cruise control because it sits lower than the sensors on the vehicle. When you add something like a bike rack or cargo carrier into the occasion it is hard to determine 100%. I have had some people not have issues, and some do. Since the rack is going to sit in front of the sensors most likely, depending on where they are on the vehicle, it most likely will interfere.

There is not a way to guarantee it will or will not work but anything in front of the sensors has a good chance of interfering or causing the ACC to function weirdly.

Hey Andy, Did you end up trying a rack or carrier with your truck, and if so, how did it work with the Adaptive Cruise Control? I'm asking because your experience could really help others in a similar situation.

Had the hitch professionally installed. It was 2-1/4 hours of mechanic work, so your cost will probably be around $300. Definitely worth getting a garage to do it with a lift and power wrenches and all the automotive experience. Adaptive Cruise Control WORKED with a Kuat bike rack attached to the hitch! I was pleasantly surprised at that outcome, and I believe it will be the same for 1500, but this product is specifically for HD models, or at least 2500 and 3500. I think the lane departure may have stopped working, but I need to try that out again. The front parking sensors don't work, so you will have to disable that functionality; I have a button to do that in my cab. I have not tried driving at night with a bike rack attached, but I believe that the tires will cause significant blockage of the headlights. It is possible that a rack with a lower profile might not carry the bikes up so high. I'd like to provide pictures, but not sure how to do that in comments

@AndyW Thank you for that feedback! Unfortunately you can't add pictures, but you can email them to me! I am glad it was able to work out for you, minus a few functions here and there but it sounds like the important ones are still kicking. Glad it worked out for you!

Follow up to my first post; we went on an all-day and into the night drive. Lane sense/departure worked fine. The headlights at night were partially obstructed, only on the left side. There was enough to illuminate the road and feel safe driving. Not sure that all law enforcement would agree. I added a multi-size hex wrench to my glove box for easy lowering and raising of seats, and that helps with visibility

@AndyW Here in Missouri I don't think law enforcement would bat an eye. You should see some of the towing setups out here. I am glad it seems to be working despite a few functions lost.
