Can I Use My Same Frame Brackets On My Weight Distribution Hitch On My C-Chanel Frame?
Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/10/2025 >
Question:
Hello, I have a WDH setup see pics I used with a 22’ travel trailer previously see pics. I just bought a Casita 17’ Independence Deluxe trailer and was wondering if I can use the WD hitch with it? I noticed the frame on the Casita is a channel, not boxed. Will the brackets work for this type of trailer? Thanks! Troy

Hey Troy,
That system that you have will work on your other trailer with a C-Chanel frame. However, you will need to put something either a block of wood or have something welded on the open side where the brackets would mount to ensure safety. You won't want to use those brackets and leave an open spot cause they will not be able to tighten down properly. Usually people use a block of wood but you can also go and weld a small section where the brackets install to make that section a boxed in frame.
What is the weight of your new trailer? Is it similar to your previous?

Hey Troy, Did you decide to use a block of wood or have something welded on your Casita trailer's frame for the brackets? I'm asking because knowing what worked for you could help others with similar setups.
