Question:

I have a Yakima OnRamp LX Y28DJ. When it is folded down and bikes are on it, the bikes partially obscure the turn signals and license plate. The obvious solution is to get the Yakima EXO LitKit Y74VR. However, when the rack is folded up, it covers the license plate, and the license plate holder on the LitKit will be oriented toward the sky. It seems that the Thule License Plate Holder for Bike Racks TH35JV would solve that problem. Is it possible to splice the wiring for the Thule Plate Holder TH35JV into the Yakima LitKit Y74VR so they can use the same 4-way flat trailer connector, perhaps by using a Spectro QuickSplice SWC502905-1? If so, which wires go into the splice?

Hello Nelson, thanks for reaching out. Typically I would not recommend modifying new products like that, but if you are comfortable doing that kind of work, it would be possible to Thule Plate Holder # TH35JV into the Yakima Light Kit # Y74VR.

For the Thule plat holder the black wire is ground and the red wire is power which would need to be tied in to the tail light wire on the Yakima light kit.
