License Plate Mounting Bracket Solution for Ladder on Class B Motorhome

Updated 08/16/2022 | Published 08/14/2022

Question:

Hi I need to move my RVs Class B rear license plate higher because my bike rack blocks it. When I have bike covers on I cannot use the spot on the bike rack to relocate the license plate. I want to move it higher and locate it on the rear ladder. The width of the ladder is 16. I was hoping to use either your LED Trailer License Plate Light with Mounting Bracket - 3 Diodes - Clear Lens - Black Frame Item # 328-003-70BE or the Optronics LED Trailer License Plate Light w/ Bracket - 5 Diodes - Clear Lens Item # LPL55CB. I understand that these are not long enough to fit across the width of the ladder so I have the license plate I want to have the license plate taped to the back of a board and then attached to the ladder See photo. I would attach the board to the lighted mounting bracket. I also need a solution to providing power to the license plate holder. I was planning to connect it to the built-in hitch light on the RV. Photo of connector attached. The wire will need to be a total of 6 feet long including the wire on the mounting bracket itself in order to reach the license plate holder from the hitch light. Any ideas and suggestions would be welcome. Thanks a lot for this great service.

Thank you for all of the details and photos!

For your application I recommend using the Thule License Plate Holder for Bike Racks # TH35JV along with the 6' Long Roadmaster Extension Loop # RM-300150-00. This gives you exactly what you're needing and eliminates the need to hardwire connections like you'd need to do with the LED Bracket # 328-003-70BE or Optronics # LPL55CB. The Thule bracket also comes with straps to mount it so you can wrap those around your ladder rungs which will not only look cleaner, but it will also last longer especially when it rains. If the straps aren't long enough you easily swap them out for something longer if you're able to source longer straps locally.
