Recommended Flat Towing Setup for a 2025 Jeep Wrangler

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/21/2025

Question:

Hello, Is there a flat tow bar attachment that works with the steel oem bumper on a 2025 Jeep JL? Or is the tow bar the only way to flat tow besides having an aftermarket bumper?

Hey Dennis, congrats on the new Jeep. You have to have a baseplate like item # BX1139 or a bumper rated to be flat towed with and then use an adapter like item # BX88357 to flat tow your 2025 Jeep Wrangler. Not all bumpers are rated to be flat towed. If you go the route of an aftermarket bumper with the intention of using it to flat tow you must make sure it's rated to be used this way.

Here are the rest of the parts you'll need to flat tow your 2025 Jeep Wrangler:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar item # BX7380

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267. This diode kit allows you to use your Jeep's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. This kit will come with a 6-way socket for your Jeep as well as an adapter cable to go from the vehicle to the motorhome.

Please note that if your Jeep has ParkSense Proximity Sensors then you will need the Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights - 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter Cord item # RM63MR instead.

Supplemental Braking System - SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # SM99251 or item # SM99243 if your motorhome has air brakes. You will also need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit item # RM-751490 to ensure that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. This kit activates your RV's monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Charge Line - Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-156-25

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

What kind of motorhome do you have?

Hey Dennis, did you get a chance to decide on a baseplate or bumper for your Jeep? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could really help others in a similar situation!
