Does the Curt Friction Sway Control Have to Be Installed at 24 Inches

Question:
what if I cannot mount at 24inch exactly? Is it better to mount closer or further away

I spoke to my contact at Curt and he said that if you were short or long on the # 17200 install by like 1/4 of an inch you would probably be okay, but any more than that and you would have problems.
If you go too long it will come apart on a sharp turn, or if you went too short it would bottom out and break the unit.
