Is the shank on the Curt C18113 cargo carrier steel or aluminum?

Hey Tom! The 22-1/2x49 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18113 has a steel shank. This is necessary to keep the higher capacity of 500 lbs. The rest of the carrier is aluminum which keeps the overall weight at 25 lbs.
