Can MORryde Hitch Mount Stabilizer be used with Dual Hitch Adapter

Updated 06/25/2025 | Published 06/19/2025

Question:

I have an Alliance fifth wheel and purchased the Swagman E-spec bike rack from you guys and love it!. The Alliance coach has the rear stabilizers fairly close to the rear axel and thus far from the rear bumper so I was looking at this product to help with rear stabilizing. I dont want to have to remove the bike rack though. Can I use this MoRyde Hitch Mount stabilizer with a dual hitch receiver and leave the E-spec rack mounted to the top receiver? Thanks.

Hey Robert, yes you could use the MORryde Hitch Mounted Stabilizer # MR22AR in a dual hitch setup like the Roadmaster # RM-077-2 and this is a clever solution but you should note that using a hitch extender like this does cut the tongue weight capacity of the hitch it's installed in by 50 percent so hopefully that won't be a problem.

What bikes do you have?

We have two e-bikes at about 60 lb each. I'm not sure why the total hitch weight would be cut in half though? Right now the max tongue weight is 300 lb for the fifth wheel hitch.

@RobertB The reason is that the adapter adds length and movement which puts extra strain on the hitch. So since the hitch has a 300 lb tongue weight capacity to be safe you'd need to make sure the weight of your bikes and rack is less than 150 lbs which I realize as I am typing this is probably not enough since that would only leave 30 lbs for your bikes.

@JamesonC Can you point me to where this 50% reduction is documented. I did not see it in the documentation of the hitch extender. Also, I went through many of the questions about this extender and only a couple mention the reduction but most of them mention the standard tongue weight restriction without any reduction.

@Robert It's a general rule of thumb with any hitch extender. You don't have to abide by it if you don't believe it but we prefer to err on the side of caution is why we always try and mention it.
