What is Purpose of Vertical Bolt Above Hitch Opening of Curt Hitch 13230

Question:

I bought 13230 hitch for my 2007 dodge truck and was able to put it on with no issues, however I am confused by the 1/2 screw that goes into the TOP center using 1/2 allen wrench. What is the purpose of the screw. It seems to serve real no purpose in the operational use of the hitch.

Hey David, that bolt may not do much but it is designed to provide some additional support for the Curt hitch # 13230.

Thanks for the reply. It seems that my center hole is too big to provide and “link” between the bumper and the trailer hitch itself.

@DavidB That's odd, so the hole in your bumper is too big for the bolt to have anything to grab onto and would slip right through it?

@Davidb Did someone by chance drill it out bigger to fit a larger diameter shank hitch ball?
