Is There Standard Hub/Drum Available for Replacing Dexter 8-222
Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 05/20/2025 >
Question:
Hello, Believe I have Dexter 8-222-24 mobile home hub/ drum assemblies with 12”x 2” electric brakes on a trailer. The grease seal inner diameter is: 1.938”. I’d like to upgrade to the more modern 6 lug on 5.5” hubs/ wheels. Do you offer a 6 lug on 5.5” assemblies that would replace these older mobile home hubs? If not, please advise any suggestions. Thank you

Hey Brian, I did some research on your Dexter 8-222 Hub and was able to find the inner and outer bearing numbers as well as the grease seal used. It looks like this particular hub was designed for mobile homes and these, for the most part, have more unique bearings and bolt patterns because they are technically manufactured for one time use only and not meant to be altered or replaced.
Because of this, there is unfortunately not a 6 on 5-1/2 inch hub available that will be compatible with your trailer's axle spindle. This is the bummer part of using mobile home axles as they basically don't have replacement parts that they can be used with since the idea is that they are one time use. Typically only solution is to replace the axles with a standard type.
