Question:
can I purchase brake shoes for my Dexter axle 8-133? The shoes are removable as seen in the photo.

Expert Reply:
The Dexter 8-133 axle according to my contact at Dexter is an old motorhome axle they no longer make. Their tech said the motorhome axles like what you have are designed for one time use so there are not compatible parts made for even replacement brake shoes, so unfortunately we can't help if you are using the axle for the original purpose on a motorhome.
If you have transferred this axle to a trailer instead of a motorhome, which is popular to do, then you can replace both the hubs and add the trailer brake assemblies to make the parts compatible. You can then use the Dexter Electric Brake Kit for 4 Bolt or 5 Bolt Flange - 12" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 6K # 23-105-106-09 along with the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 5,200-lb Axles - 12" Diameter - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-201-5UC3 which will match your spindles but give you a new bolt pattern.
