Recommended Wiring Harness for a 2025 Volvo XC60 Plus

Updated 05/11/2025 | Published 05/08/2025

Question:

I currently see two wiring harness kits listed for the 2025Volvo XC60 Plus, T8 (PHEV): the C84RJ and the C59236. Which one should I order? Are there any real differences between them? I will be towing a boat and trailer (no trailer brakes) totaling 3000 pounds as well as occasionally mounting a bike rack on the Curt C92WR hitch receiver.

Unless you enjoy cutting and splicing wires, I strongly recommend going with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C84RJ over the item # C59236. The Curt item # C84RJ is custom-fit and plugs into your Volvo's wiring harness in your rear cargo area. The Curt item # C59236 is a universal harness that splices in manual to the tail light wiring.

The Curt Hitch item # C92WR, you referenced, is confirmed to fit the 2025 Volvo XC60 Plus. It is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver that has a 4,000 lbs towing capacity and a maximum tongue weight of 400 lbs. This hitch will be perfect for both your boat and hauling bikes.

To round out your towing setup, I also recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.

Does your boat trailer not have any type of brakes or do you just not need a brake controller because they're surge brakes?

Thanks Jerred. At a combined weight of 2990#, it has no brakes. I've ordered the hitch and T-connect wireing kit. The unfortunate news the harness kit is on back order. I'll wait for the convenience.

@Dandjwest You're welcome! Happy to help! I would do exactly the same, especially with a brand new vehicle. You're either right at the limit for needing brakes or way over depending on what state you're in. If you ever want to add brakes to your trailer let me know.
