Wiring for towing can be a hassle, but this harness makes it simple. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector plugs straight into existing vehicle wiring. There’s no need to cut or splice anything—just connect it to the factory ports and you’re ready to power your trailer lights.
Some vehicles don’t send enough power through their tail light circuits for trailer lights to work properly. This harness solves that with a built-in powered converter. It pulls power directly from the battery so your trailer’s running, turn, and brake lights operate safely and consistently every time you tow.
The wiring stays tucked away until it’s needed. The hidden plug-and-lead design keeps things neat behind your panels, and the 4-flat connector drops out easily when it’s time to hook up a trailer or bike rack light bar. Once you’re done towing, just stow it back inside for a clean factory look.
Beyond towing, this 4-way connector can also power auxiliary LED indicator lights or other accessories that use a standard 4-flat plug. Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this CURT T-connector vehicle wiring harness with a four-pole flat trailer connector. Now, this harness has been designed to fit your 2018 and newer Volvo XC60 and then your 2021 and newer XC60 Recharge. On custom-fit parts such as this harness, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Simply input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this harness will work for you or if we have another one that will work for you. Now, this harness is going to give you a four-pole flat trailer connector at the back of your Volvo to power your trailer's signal lights.
This is going to also be compatible with five-, six-, and seven-pole adapters. Those adapters are sold separately. And as you see, we do have this included dust cap here that can cover up those connection points when the plug is not in use. Now, the black box on this harness is a power taillight converter, and this is going to make sure that your Volvo's wiring matches that of your trailer. This will connect directly to your vehicle's battery to avoid overloading the vehicle's electrical system.
So that's gonna reduce strain on your vehicle's wiring system. And by the way, CURT does build each converter box using surface-mount technology, giving you consistent, reliable performance. This is gonna maximize trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, ensuring superior operation even in rough road conditions. Now, this harness is designed to connect quickly and easily. You will need to locate your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in the rear cargo area.
You might have to remove the trunk floor coverings and the rear access panels to access the harness. But once you locate the connectors, you're gonna separate them, and you wanna be careful not to break the locking tabs. And then you're going to insert these T-connector ends between the vehicle's wiring connectors and then lock them into place. These are custom fitted to your vehicle, so they're gonna match up perfectly with the connection points on your vehicle. And they're gonna snap and lock together for a tight, secure fit.
Once you have these plugged in, you will need to make a good ground connection. And the ground wire is this white wire that you see here with a ring terminal attached to it. It does come with a self-tapping screw, as you can see right there, so you can get this grounded to a suitable location, such as your vehicle's frame or cross member. You just wanna make sure that it's clean and rust-free. Next, you'll want to mount this converter box to a safe, out-of-the-way location. You can do that a number of different ways. We do have this double-sided adhesive tape that's included with this kit that you can use. I would recommend using this with another secondary way to mount this, because this tape might not hold as long as it should. So I would maybe use another one of the many cable ties that's included with this kit, or as you can see, we do have a hole at the top here. So if you also have another self-tapping screw on your own, you could use that screw to secure that as well. Next, you'll want to run the hot lead to your vehicle's battery. That's this short black wire that's coming out of our converter box. This short black wire is going to get connected to one end of this included bundle of black wire using one of the butt connectors that's included with this kit. And then the other end of this bundle is going to get routed to your vehicle's battery. Once you have this routed to your battery, you're gonna take this fuse holder here, take one of the wires with the other butt connector and connect it to the routed end of this black bundled wire. Then you're gonna take this ring terminal and you'll attach that to the other wire that's coming out of this fuse holder. And then that ring terminal will get attached to the positive post of your vehicle's battery. This does come with a 10-amp fuse. That will slide into that fuse holder there. It's got a cap there to protect your fuse to keep it protected. Now, you can secure any slack or excess in your wiring with the cable ties that comes with this kit. Instructions are included to guide you through the installation process. Once installation is complete, the four-way connector can be stowed inside of your cargo area. This kit arrived safely and undamaged. It was packaged in a cardboard box inside a larger box that contained a receiver trailer hitch that was also ordered at the same time. Both will be installed later this week by a local trailer service company. Although there were a couple puncture holes in the large box hitch box, the hitch was in perfect condition.
FYI,the T-Connector box had been stapled to the inside of the hitch box. This smaller box was found loose inside the big box, having broken free from the staples during shipment.
For $120 you shouldn’t have to cut and splice the green wire because it’s too short or the 4-way because it doesn’t fit through the grommet. Defeats the whole purpose of buying pre-wired.
Seems to work perfectly. It would benefit from 6" more cable for the green one, but its' fine.
Not sure why it's half again more money than the other Volvo one I need, but whatever. Beats wiring the crap myself.

I like the design of it being tucked away when not in use. Preventing premature failure from corrosion, the reason I had to replace my old one. Plenty of wire to run it when needed as well, keeping it from getting pulled on or unplugged while towing. Very easy to hookup, the vehicle was the difficult side but the instructions were clear and precise and helped it be a quick amd simple DIY job.
Cables were very short, on a few, I spliced additional cabling to ensure proper fit, especially on the cable that connects to the trailer. Plastic cover for trailer cable was cheap and ripped on installation.
Directions were not specific for my vehicle. There were some differences, the pictures were way off, but in the end, it was not a difficult install. The important part, the connectors, were correct.
I originally ordered the wrong receiver by mistake, but a quick call to customer service turned everything around. Sara S. was a huge help in getting my order (Items C84RJ and C92WR) sorted out. She addressed every single one of my questions and concerns, ensuring I had exactly what I needed.
The installation process was impressively straightforward:
• Hitch Receiver (C84RJ): Went on very easily—it took no more than an hour to fully install.
• Wiring Harness (C92WR): Equally simple. Since I already had the bumper/fascia removed, it only took about 30 minutes to get everything connected.
Thanks to Sara’s expertise and these high-quality parts, I’m heading out on my move to Florida with complete peace of mind. Highly recommend etrailer for both their products and their top-tier support!
The green wire that runs from left to right side needs to be a few inches longer. The control box did not come with any adhesive or a place to mount.
Attached video was very helpful, all parts arrived as expected, and everything worked/fit exactly as expected. You can install a trailer plug for $20 but with a lot more wiring and schematics, but this plug took out all the guess work and difficulty.
I agree with some of the other reviews though, with routing for cleanliness, if the passenger side plug could be able 6-12" longer that would make routing and tidying up much easier and nicer. Wire was ever so slightly taught when routed and plugged in.
