Flat Tow Setup for 2013 Jeep Wrangler MOAB With Factory Steel Bumper

Updated 05/06/2025 | Published 04/23/2025

Question:

I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler MOAB with the factory steel bumper that came with the MOAB edition. Will this base plate fit with that bumper, or might I need the BX1134 with the taller bracket? Also, I am using a blue ox tow bar and will be wiring my converted skoolie with a 7 pin trailer connector. My Cruiserlift RV motorcycle lift will connect to that, and I believe the cruiserlift has a 6 pin connector that would then connect to the jeep for pasthrough lights and brake signal. Can you recommend a wiring harness for the jeep to accommodate those things, and the most integrated braking system I would like to avoid the huge braking systems you have to place in the floor board and remove each time, if possible. Please advise.

Hey Jason! Since you have the MOAB edition you actually need the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1133. It was specifically designed for your bumper. For wiring you need the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267.

There are a few different ways to handle the 6-way connector on your Cruiserlift. Is there a particular reason you have a 6-way on there now? If not, I recommend swapping that connector out with a 7-way # C57672 which is far more common.

You can also use the Buyers Products 6-Way Round to 7-Way Blade RV Adapter # 337TC1067P but you're adding in a whole other cable and depending on how your 6-way is wired you may have to rewire the adapter. The third option is to remove the 7-way blade connector on the Roadmaster cable and add another 6-way # C92FV to the other end.

Technically, you could piece a kit together using the Demco # DM9523006 and the # RM-152 but that would cost a good deal more when compared to swapping out the connector or using the additional adapter. Also, I don't know if you have separate or combined wiring coming off of that bus. Take a look at the wiring diagrams further down on the # RM-15267 product page. Additional parts may be needed depending on your bus wiring.

Do you have air brakes? I'm assuming you do. If so, the Demco Air Force One Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Air Brakes # SM99243 is going to be the best option. This is fully integrated so you won't have to set it up each time you tow.

Thanks Robin! The Bus will have a 7-way connector. The CruiserLift RV motorcycle carrier plugs into that (it has tail lights, etc, on it for when you just have the bike on and no towed vehicle) - then it came with the 6-way spliced into the lift's wiring harness. I could re-wire it and be 7-way instead if that's what we need to do. I'm assuming whatever system the original owner had on their jeep required the 6-way on the RV side. I like that Air Force One system - and yes we have air. I'm not in love with tapping into the bus's air lines, but if all the cool kids do it... haha

@Jason all of the cool kids with air brakes definitely do it. Whatever is easier for you is what I would do with the connector. Our pictures weren't working for a while so yours isn't showing up to look at again but, if that 6-way is nicely integrated and you don't want to risk messing up the carrier just swap it on the wiring harness. It would be worth checking the functions of the 6-way pins to make sure you match it all up correctly.
