Will this trailer hitch fit and work on a 2019 grand design 2970RL?

Hi Leonard!

The Stromberg-Carlson Adjustable Hitch # SC45MR will most likely fit, but I don't have the frame width measurement for your 2019 Grand Design 2970RL handy, unfortunately. That said, this will fit frames that measure from 49-1/2" to 76-1/2" wide, which tends to cover just about everything. I would be very surprised if you got a measurement that did not fall between these.

Have you measured your frame by chance? If you do end up getting a measurement that this wont work with, please let me know down in the comments and I can see about finding a different option for you.

I was able to measure in between my frame and it is 68 1/2" so I do think it will fit, however, I don't think the reciever part is long enough to get past the bumper on my 2970RL?

@LeonardB Dang, I was a little worried about that. Definitely complicates things a bit, but there are still a few options. First, you technically can just remove the bumper. This doesn't really hurt anything, but you do lose that safety buffer and anything attached to it. I did some looking around and it appears quite a few people with your camper do go this route, but it should be noted that doing this might be illegal in some states (the one I saw was California, big surprise I know). Second, you could go with a hitch that mounts to the bumper. This will depend on what you are planning on using it for, but something like the etrailer RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch # e38HR can handle up to 3,500 lbs of towing capacity and 350 lbs of tongue weight. This is of course dependent on what the bumper on your Grand Design can handle (I don't have that capacity so you would need to contact them for that, unfortunately). This is also designed to fit either a 4" x 4" or 4" x 4-1/2", so it should fit but I was unable to find the size of your bumper. Third, and last, you could use a hitch extender like the 8" # e88YR or 18" # e48YR. A lot of people use these, but I am not a fan of going this direction. They cut the tongue weight of the hitch by 50% (so the Stromberg Carlson hitch will have the max tongue weight of 350 pounds cut to only 175 pounds) and there will be a lot of play in the set up. That part can be fixed with something like the Malone Anti-Rattle # MPG908, but I would still be more comfortable going with either option 1 or 2. What will you be using the hitch for?

@LazerS I contacted Grand Design and they refused to tell me if I could mount a bolt on receiver to the bumper, they said because of liability issues.

@Leonard Well I can't say I have heard that one before. I have heard people say they needed to add braces to one, but flat out refusing to tell someone if they could use it? That's definitely new. I saw you ordered the Stromberg Carlson hitch # SC45MR and that should work perfectly fine. Good choice with the Swagman E-Spec # S94FR as well. It's one of the more popular racks for pull behinds due to its high carrying capacity. If you have any other questions or anything, just let me know! : )
