Hey Nick, thanks for reaching out!
The Brake Buddy Vantage Select 39504 was discontinued, but it was replaced by the Select 3 # HM39524 so I'll compare that to the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR.
The Patriot is a little easier to setup because it just plugs into a 12V outlet (use part # RM-9332 if your vehicle doesn't have an active one in tow mode) and then put it in place and let it calibrate.
The Select 3 actually has some wiring that needs to be installed, but I still like it better because you get wiring to power up the brake system, as well as a battery charge line that you run to the plug at the front of your vehicle to make sure the battery doesn't drain during towing.
Another thing we tend to find is that the Patriot will sometimes have a difficult time talking to the remote controller in certain situations. The system still operates, you just can't use the manual override or adjust settings when this happens.
I recommend the Select 3 simply because it's more reliable and you get the extra wiring that makes it a simple setup after the initial installation.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
