Troubleshooting Wiring Harness Issues With Curt C56333 On 2017 Jeep Patriot

Updated 04/22/2025 | Published 04/14/2025

Question:

Ordered this wiring harness back in January finally installed it and have issues. When applying the right turn signal it would only faintly blink, left activates normal. Replaced bulb made no difference. So went back through install process and redid the ground attachment. Now with lights off it operates properly but when lights are on and applying right signal it blinks but so does left signal. I have tried unconnected just the right T connector and it works along with left signal works normal. I am stumped as to what to do

Hello Steven, thanks for reaching out. This sounds like one of two things. Either a bad ground, or a bad converter module. A bad ground can cause all kind of weird lighting issues, and it is by far the most common cause of problems with these wiring harnesses. Please double/triple check your ground and make sure you are grounded to a clean bare metal surface. Even a bit of paint can mess up the ground.

if the ground is good the next step will be to test the converter module with a wire tester like part # PTW2993. Basically what you do is check the input wires going to the module and make sure all the signals are normal. Like you should detect a pulsating signal with the turn signal on and so forth. If the input signals are normal, but the output is not, this means the converter is bad and will need to be replaced.

I have also linked an article for you below that does over some troubleshooting steps.

Initially the ground was in the area of the turn signal lens unit and there was paint, so I disconnected the ground and scraped the paint, still no difference. So I moved it underneath up in the cavity behind wheel well. That's where the module is mounted also. As for testing, I have a couple different plug type testers that plug into the 4 pin vehicle end and the RT light does not illuminate. I'm leaning towards the module being bad. I had a prior year Patriot before and had good luck with it till it wasn't good. Any help would be appreciated Steve J

@SteveJ Yea it does sound like the module is bad and will need to be replaced. Send me your order number and I can get the ball rolling on that.

@JesseM I have no idea what the order number would be. It was ordered sometime between February and March I believe since I purchased the Jeep Patriot in February

@SteveJ Did you get it from us here at etrailer? I do not see any orders come up under your email address. The order confirmation should be in your email somewhere if it was purchased from us.
