Solution for Blue Ox Weight Distribution System That Needs More Drop to Tow Trailer Level

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 04/02/2025

Question:

The Rv dealer I just bought a travel trailer from included a Blue Ox sway pro weight distribution hitch with it. After doing some research though I found that the maximum drop isn’t very much. I have a Jeep Gladiator with a 2” lift and 35” tires, the top of my receiver measures at 24”. I think I will need more . Is this adapter able to be used in conjunction with a weight distribution hitch.

Hey Joseph, we have just what you are looking for but the Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter # BLU28XR is not your ideal solution to get more drop. Instead you'd want to swap the shank of your system with one that has more drop built into it like the Fastway e2 part # FA92-02-4214 which can provide a drop of 5-1/2 inches. If the trailer's coupler height was around 19 inches this would be ideal. You'd measure this from bottom lip of coupler to the ground.

If you need a lot of drop you'd instead want the part # EQ90-02-4400 which can do a drop of up to 9 inches.

Hey Joseph, how did things turn out after trying the new weight distribution shank for your Blue Ox setup? Did the extra drop from the Fastway or Equal-i-zer shank line up better with your trailer height? Your update could make it easier for others with lifted trucks to find the right fit.
