Troubleshooting a Curt WDS That's Spring Bars Keep Falling Out
Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 03/28/2025 >
Question:
I have Curt MV Weight Distribution System that was installed from the factory on my 2016 keystone hideout 24bhwse. I was running about 40 psi in the airbags. It was running fine on the way to camping, but the way home was running the same psi and the spring bars fell out multiple times on the way home. It happened more often at slow speeds when the rear axle was uneven, but it also happened on the freeway a couple of times at high speed. I never lost a bar, but it’s unnerving. The trip was in the desert. Is there a lubrication issue with the clips or something else with the setup that would cause this?

Hey Adam, thanks for dropping by! Sorry to hear about your issue with the spring bars falling out, and for what it's worth, that is a pretty uncommon thing.
I'd suggest, if you haven't already, checking everything before heading out and making sure it's all tight. The spring bars should click into place on the hitch so they don't fall out.
It also could be an issue with the spring clips needing to be replaced. If they are original to the system there is a good chance they need to be replaced.

Hey Adam, did replacing or tightening the spring clips on your Curt MV weight distribution system stop the bars from falling out? Your update could make it easier for others who run into the same issue on rough roads.
