Will the Portable Power Watchdog Surge Protector HU42VR Send Notifications Over WiFi?

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 03/25/2025

Question:

Will the unit provide a notification of a power outage when you are out of range of the bluetooth signal? In other words, since this model has WiFi capability, is a power outage notification being sent to you regardless of where you are?

Yes, that is correct Tom! So long as the Portable Power Watchdog Surge Protector item # HU42VR is connected to WiFi you'll get notifications assuming your phone also has signal.

Hey Tom, did the WiFi notifications from your Portable Power Watchdog Surge Protector work the way you expected when you were out of range? Knowing how it performed could help others who rely on remote alerts.

It's been working great. The unit can communicate by WiFi or Bluetooth. Beyond the protection it offers for surges and other power issues, it's nice to have the peace of mind brought with being able to check in while we're away to make sure the power is on and know the dogs still have the air conditioner working while we're gone.

@Tom Oh I love this! What a great way to use the remote monitoring functions. What kind of dogs do you have?

@JerredH We have a Coton de Tulear, which is a small dog and a rescue dog which we were told was a combination of a Great Pyrenees and possibly an Australian Shepherd, so she's a larger dog. We've got cameras to check in on them but we could never be sure if the power was on or if the air conditioner was on. Now being able connect to the surge protector remotely, we can not only see that the power is on but we can see the amps being used and know that the AC is running for them. We're down in Florida and so that's important for most of the year.
