Question:

1998 Coachman 31 MH Ford ESuperduty 460 The current electrical system is a Magnetek Series 900 Model 940 converter/charger and lead acid batteries. No solar. No inverter. I would like to change from lead acid to lithium batteries. Is there a direct replacement charger/inverter? Should I continue to use the one I have? Thanks for the help.

Hey Jeff! Thanks for all the information! You are definitely going to need to swap out your Magnetek Series 900 Model 940 when you do your lithium battery upgrade. You can replace your entire power center using the Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series RV Converter w/ Charge Wizard and AC/DC Distribution Panel item # PD4060K you were looking at. This would set you up well when you make the conversion.

If you do not want a whole new panel, you can use the Progressive Dynamics 9300 Series RV Converter Charger item # PD69RR. This is a 45 amp model but we have quite a few options if your set up is going to have a higher amperage. To install it you'll need to locate which breaker is powering your current converter and disconnect the wires of the converter from that circuit breaker. From there you'll need to run a 12v outlet on its own circuit breaker to wherever you plan on installing the converter.

How many amps are you currently using and are you planning on running a higher amperage when you upgrade your batteries?

Hey Jeff, how did the swap from your Magnetek converter to the Progressive Dynamics setup go with your lithium battery upgrade? Your results could really help others planning a similar change. Knowing what worked might guide others in your situation.
