How to Tighten Self Adjusting Brake Assemblies by Hand

Question:
For first time set-up I need to move the brake pads out, so what do I do with the metal auto adjust arm, and which way do I turn the star wheel to expand the pads outward?

Hey Brian, if you grab the magnet and move it in the direction of the arm that it is attached to far enough it will click and it will adjust the star wheel tighter. This will be the easiest way to move the shoes out. Or you can install them and then slide the manual override lever of your brake controller over and over and it will grab the magnet and do this for you.

Thanks James, great info. I would also like to know how to adjust these breaks when the drum and hub are installed, and there is no tow vehicle around. What to do with the auto adjuster tab and what way do I spin the wheel to move the brakes out. Thanks
