Where Should Trailer Brake Assemblies be Grounded?

Published 03/11/2025

Question:

I have a ‘56 airstream. My question is the trailer brake wiring. Do you recommend grounding each magnet wire at the axle area, or running a separate ground wire , along with the blue wire, up to the 7 point connector and tapping into the ground wire coming from my truck? Thanks, you guys are the best!

Hey Larry, either way is going to work fine so whichever is easier for you will be fine. If it was me though I would ground the magnets to the frame near the axle just because that's simpler and requires less wire. It means less wire ran on the trailer which means less chance for something to get damaged etc.

Thank you. Should have asked this too. What about the hot wire coming from th3 truck battery. If I connect the two hot wires at the axle, an$ run just one wire up willi experience too muck voltage drop? Or should I run the hot wires indivually from each wheel? Thanks,

@LarryG If you are using 10 gauge wire you can run it either way and you won't experience enough voltage drop to have it affect anything.
