Will Adding a Hitch to a Base 2024 Ford Maverick Increase It's Towing Capacity

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/06/2025

Question:

Ford Mavericks are listed from the factory as either 2k or 4k towing capacity. I am 99 sure the 2k is the bumper receiver rating, versus the frame mounted receiver rating of 4k. They claim you need the towing option as well as the awd option to get 4k, but my question is for a bottom of the line fwd model. If I had a 2k bumper pull model but buy your receiver hitch does that mean I can tow 4k?

Eric, I did some research and it does not look like just putting a hitch on your base model Maverick is going to equate you being able to now tow up to 4,000 lbs. From what I can find, Ford also beefs up the radiator, transmission cooler, cooling fan, and drive ratio, all allowing it to work harder to handle more weight.

So even if you were to install a hitch like the Curt Trailer Hitch # C84BR, you'd still be limited to the 2,000 lb capacity you have. What are you trying to tow, out of curiosity? Also, if you have any other questions, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Eric, what did you end up deciding to do with your Maverick’s towing setup? Your update could make it easier for others wondering about the 2k vs. 4k capacity difference.
