Why Would Front Hitch on 1994 Ford F-150 be Angling Down After 20 Years?

Updated 03/11/2025 | Published 03/06/2025

Question:

I have a Hidden Hitch brand front hitch on my 94 f150. The hitch has been mounted in place for about 20 yrs. I have in the last few years noticed my hitch appears to be angling down ward. The bottom of the hitch is sitting about 6inch from the ground. Everything appears tight. Do you have any ideas on why this may have happened? When I put in the Hidden hitch name info, it reverts to your site, so im assuming they are the same product. any info would help. Thank you

Hey Gary, thanks for reaching out!

There are a handful of reasons why a hitch can start angling down, but the most common would be using the hitch for what it's not intended for, overloading the tongue weight, or accidentally hitting something. After using it for 20 years it could also just be a combination of any of these, but the bottom line is you need to replace that receiver if you're still planning on using it. For your application I recommend using the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 31026. I've attached a photo someone sent in of this on a 1995 F-150 for you to check out!

The Curt receiver you were looking at is a completely different brand, but we also carry a lot of the Draw-Tite hitches which are made by the same company as Hidden Hitch which is likely why it brought you here. Regardless, we're glad you left us a question - we always like meeting new people!
