10k Tow Loop Needed With Minimal Play In The Receiver Tube

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/12/2024

Question:

I recent purchased one of these. It said it was for a 2inch receiver but there is a LOT of play between the shaft and receiver. So much that the tow eye actually angles down some when installed. My question, does your tow eye fit nicely in a 2inch receiver or is there a lot of play too?

Hi Derrick,

The Trailer Hitch Receiver Mounted Forged Tow Eye # TR63045 shank is 1-7/8" x 1-15/16" with rounded corners, which would explain the amount of play you've been experiencing. We have a few other options in this weight class that have 2" x 2" shanks to help reduce the play if you'd prefer to swap out the # TR63045:

Curt Tow Strap Loop # C45832
MaxxTow Tow Strap Loop # MT70029
Superwinch Receiver Shackle Bracket # SW95GR

Of the three I personally prefer the Curt Tow Strap Loop # C45832. It has slightly more capacity at 13,000lbs, has a solid shank, and is the longest of the three for more clearance.

Hey Derrick, did you end up trying one of the 2x2 tow strap loops to cut down on the play in your receiver? Knowing which one fit best could help others dealing with the same loose connection.
