Should Chevy Silverado Towing at Top of Towing Capacity Use a Weight Distribution System
Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/29/2025 >
Question:
I have a Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ 6foot Crew Cab L84 V8 that I want to tow a new Forest River Flagstaff Classic 832BWS dry weight 9669 from the RV Dealer to our camp ground a 4 + hr ride. I believe that my trucks towing capacity is 9700 and we dont plan on putting anything in the camper until it gets to our camp ground and will stay there year round. Do I need a weight distribution tow bar? The truck has a factory installed 2inch receiver.

Hey Dave, since you are sitting right at the max towing capacity for your Chevy Silverado I would highly recommend a weight distribution system for your 4 hour drive. You'll probably make it there without one if you really wanted to but you are going to be much safer for braking and handling if you go with a WD system like the Blue Ox part # BLU75FR which is on the lower priced end of the spectrum and will get the job done well for the one time you'd move it.
Have you used WD before?
