Is 2024 Honda Prologue Limited to Listed 150 lb Tongue Weight with Draw-Tite Hitch Installed?

Question:

Hi - looking at the Drawtite hitch for the Honda Prologue, the tongue weight limit is 350lb. Looking at the honda prologue specifications, it states a tongue weight limit of 150lb. Do you know if the lower limit on the Honda spec is a limit of the vehicle itself, or a result of the Honda OEM hitch having a 150lb limit? Thanks!

Hey Matthew, thanks for reaching out!

The 150 lb tongue weight max limit listed in your owner's manual is for the 2024 Honda Prologue itself, so even with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # DT38KV tongue weight being 350 lbs, you'll be limited by your vehicle and need to stay within that 150 lb max limit.

Most people ask why hitch manufacturers will rate their hitches higher than what the vehicle manufacturer lists them for and it all boils down to the hitch companies just testing out their strength without the it being installed on a vehicle, really.

What are you planning on using the hitch receiver for?

Thanks Jon. Planning to use it for a bike rack, platform type, for 2-bikes. so I think 150lbs should be ok provided the bikes aren't too heavy.

@Matthew Yeah, the 150 lbs will be able to handle it just fine. Do you already have those carries? If not, I'd be more than happy to recommend a bike rack and cargo carrier!

@JonG Thanks. The answer to your second question is, maybe! I thought I had this sorted out and a carrier ordered, then ran into questions, which is when I reached out to you.. Now I'm wondering which hitch is the correct fit for the Honda Prologue. Looking at Curt's website, they list the hitch #13617 (https://www.curtmfg.com/part/13617) for the Prologue. This number doesn't seem to match your model numbers for Curt hitches. Is the 13617 the same as what you list as C89RV (which DOES seem to fit the Honda Prologue) and not what you have listed as the C63ZV (which it appears does NOT fit the Prologue)? The issues seems to stem from the Honda Prologue and Chevy Equinox in theory being the same but in practice slightly different as regards hitch fit. The Q&A on the C89RV is a bit contradictory as to which hitch fits which car so I wanted to confirm. thanks again for your help!

@Matthew Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C89RV on our site is the exact same as the 13617 that Curt has listed out. We've had to change numbers to our unique numbers across the board just to make sure everything is unique. Sometimes our different manufacturers will use the same part number as someone else so we do it this way. The Curt # C63ZV actually fits a 2024 - 2026 Chevrolet Blazer EV (not to toss more confusion into the mix) and is the same as Curt 13589. If you don't already have the carriers ordered then I recommend checking out the Flint Hill Goods 22" x 49" Cargo Carrier # FHG27ZR because it's a lightweight aluminum (weighs 25 lbs) and the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack # KU84FR which weighs in at 37 lbs and can carry standard bikes weighing up to 60 lbs so you can take full advantage of that total 150 lbs of tongue weight.
