Can Front Runner Slimsport FIt with Yakima SkyBox Cargo Box

Question:
Hi, I am looking for a rack for my 2015 Toyota 4Runner. I am interested in the Frontrunner Slimsport model. Here is my issue: I have a Yakima Skybox which I want to use with the rack. As you likely are aware, the Yakima Skybox uses a clamping system to attach to cross bars. I believe the Yakima clamps will fit around the cross bars, but want to be sure there is enough clearance to make this process easy and so as to not scratch the roof of the vehicle. Can you tell me the clearance between the roof and the bottom of the Slimsport cross bars? Would I be able to use the Yakima Skybox with the Frontruner Slimsport? Thanks very much MS

Hey Matt, so the Front Runner SlimSport Platfrom part # FR85VV does fit your 2024 Toyota 4Runner, the hardware of your Yakima Skybox does fit around the crossbeams of the rack and also the rack is high enough above the roof line that the hardware wouldn't hit the roof. I don't have an exact figure on that I can share since the roof of the vehicle is rounded but I can see in the racks pictures that it is definitely up high enough to allow the box to fit.

Hey Matt, how did the Frontrunner Slimsport rack work out with your Yakima Skybox on the 4Runner? It’d be great to know if the clearance ended up being enough for easy mounting. Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar combo.
